If you are preparing to write or design an advertisement of any kind, one objective question you would do well to ask is ‘Would I stop and read it?’. Actually, the better question might be ‘Would my best client stop and read it?’ – after all, we aren’t always in the demographic of the type of new customers we are looking to attract.
As marketers for what it is we do, it’s easy to assume we understand our typical customer profile. But sometimes we can be blinded by all the stuff we already know about our particular sector. Our customers may not be on the same page.
So, when writing copy for an advert – think about THEM; the potential customer.
A good advert is not only clear, but concise – don’t over-complicate the message. At the end of the day, you want the right person to read the right message, then there’s a good chance they will take action afterwards.
Here’s my top 3 tips:
1) Make your advert headline, a question.
2) A headline should have impact – make it big!
3) Ask ‘Would my best client stop and read it?’
