For many years, Villa Adastra care home has been a place where older people in Hassocks have found compassionate care, friendship and security. Many local families know the home through loved ones who have lived here, or through its long-standing reputation for treating every resident with dignity, kindness and respect.
Now, our much-loved care home has begun an exciting new chapter. Previously operated by The Salvation Army, Villa Adastra is newly part of Pilgrims’ Friend Society, a Christian charity that has been supporting older people for more than 200 years. While ownership has changed, the values that have made Villa Adastra so special remain firmly at its heart and Pilgrims’ Friend Society is proud to continue that Christian legacy, ensuring Villa Adastra remains a place where faith, compassion and professional care go hand in hand.
That means continuing to provide high-quality residential, dementia, respite and end-of-life care in a welcoming community where every person is known as an individual—not simply by their care needs, but by their life story, personality, relationships and faith. Located on Keymer Road in the heart of Hassocks, Villa Adastra offers accommodation for up to 32 residents, with an additional eight newly refurbished rooms soon becoming available. Comfortable ensuite bedrooms, peaceful lounges, a secure landscaped garden and a varied programme of activities create an environment where people can continue enjoying life while receiving the support they need. Families are welcomed as an important part of daily life, with open visiting encouraged and opportunities to celebrate special occasions together.
At the centre of everything is Pilgrims’ Friend Society’s belief that excellent care goes beyond physical needs. Emotional wellbeing, meaningful relationships, purpose and spiritual support are all vital to helping older people live fulfilled later lives. Residents who share the Christian faith can continue to grow spiritually through regular Bible devotions, worship and prayer. Experienced Registered Home Manager Sharon Bacon continues to lead the home alongside the established team, many of whom have served those who live at the home for years. Their knowledge of residents, commitment to personalised care and passion for creating a genuine family atmosphere continue to shape everyday life at Villa Adastra.
Sharon says: “It’s such a privilege to serve the older people of Hassocks and we are really pleased to be continuing on our work here at Villa Adastra. We hope that more older locals will choose to come and make their home here within our special community.” For families beginning the often-emotional search for care, finding the right home can feel overwhelming. Villa Adastra offers the reassurance of experienced staff, personalised care, a welcoming Christian community and an organisation whose sole purpose is supporting older people, not generating profits for shareholders.
The team at Villa Adastra warmly welcomes enquiries from anyone considering residential, dementia or respite care for themselves or someone they love and look forward to showing visitors around the home. Visits are an opportunity to meet the team, chat with residents and discover why Villa Adastra has been such a valued part of the Hassocks community for so many years—and why its future under Pilgrims’ Friend Society is one built on the same enduring foundations of faith, compassion and exceptional care.
